I’m not going to be shy. I love LinkedIn. It is has been a truly great asset for headhunting. That is not to say that it didn’t take a little time and effort to both figure it out and put it to work. I’ve been building and cultivating my network for years and I can say without reservation that is has paid off.
Apparently, Kelly Williams Brown over at The Daily Beast hasn’t quite sorted it out though. If I were her, I probably would have kept it to myself. Instead, Kelly took the time to write an “article” telling us all about her limitations. Fair enough, LinkedIn is a big website and it takes some effort. For job seekers, headhunters and hiring managers, however, LinkedIn is a gold mine of potential connections, contacts, clients and jobs.
In my book, Modern Job Search, I discuss how to use LinkedIn in order to learn about leading companies, find peers and seek their advice, identify hiring managers and bypass human resources, and find jobs. It’s not rocket science but it helps t have a goal. As I’ve said in previous posts and in my book, my own goal is to know as many of the most qualified Supply Chain Management professionals at a variety of levels in manufacturing and energy production as possible. I want to be able to contact potential candidates about job opportunities or potential hiring managers about marketable candidates.
What’s your goal? Not sure?
